Are you Recreating the Wheel?

How many things do you do over and over again each day?  Probably a lot.  Most are easy- packing kids lunch, taking a shower, putting dishes in the dishwasher.

But somethings are harder and require more steps and the cooperation of others or at least the coordination of other people.

Let me introduce you to process documents (fancy word for checklists).  When you do something over and over, it’s much easier if it becomes habit and routine.  And doing something the same way each time helps create those habits.  And a checklist helps us remember what to do and in what order to do it, thus creating habits more easily.

You might need a checklist for checking your bank accounts and paying bills so you don’t forget something.  You might need a checklist for packing for a family vacation.  If you’re recreating these every time you’re doing something, then you are wasting valuable time recreating the wheel.

So…

Create checklists for anything that you want to automate, for anything that doesn’t require much thinking, but you do often.  Maybe it’s a morning checklist to get out the door on time.  Maybe it’s a check list for packing for a family trip.  Whatever it is, get it on paper, or computer, so you can use it again and again.
