Spring Cleaning for the Mind

Spring Cleaning for the Mind

The spring Equinox has just passed and we can feel the days lengthening and the earth warming here in the Northern hemisphere.  I get the urge to spring clean the house, to open up and create space in my home and office.  But one thing often gets neglected when we are focused on our spring cleaning is old habits and patterns that we are finished with.Just like the vase Aunt Marge gave us, there are things within ourselves that we no longer like or do not fit in our current lives.Spring is a great time to pause, enjoy the warmth, the flowers, the longer days and to ponder about what will wash away with the spring rains.  I had the amazing opportunity to sit in a hot tub last week, in the rain, by the river, in the redwoods- a perfect heaven of water.  It was so easy to let the rain and the river wash away what I am cleaning out within myself.
DREAM YOUR OWN (2)What was I washing away?  I’ll share a few things:
  • The need and the thought that I am in charge of other peoples actions (my kids included).
  • The thoughts and patterns that I have learned through my life that says “if I am not doing something, I am not productive.”  “Rest is overrated.”
So I am super curious, what do you want the rains to wash away?  What do you want to leave in the dark of winter?   What would help you step out into the spring warmth with more space in your heart?
